Sunderland Hold Stoke in Relegation Clash
Ten man sunderland managed to pick up a point and take one small step towards premier league survival as stoke are now all but safe.
Jonathon Walters fired the potters ahead on the 9 minute mark after Stoke scored from one of their famous set pieces and in this situation it was a corner met by the Irishman on the second attempt. This fixture came on the 40th anniversary of sunderlands famous fa cup final victory over Leeds, however things went from bad to worse for Di Canio's men as Craig Gardner saw red for a rash challenge on Charlie Adams.
Di Canio's men needed guts and determination to get back in the game and they came close earlier on as Adam Johnson's shot went close and this kick started Sunderland's second half performance. On the 60th minute John O'Shea saw his header cleared off the line but only 3 minutes later he prodded home from Sebastian Larsson's corner to make it one a piece, but this was not the end of the action at the stadium of light as late on Danny Rose saw his shot clip the outside of the post which would have been a remarkable win for the black cats.
This result saw Sunderland rise to 15th and reach 38 points, meanwhile Stoke rose to 15th place and reach 41 points meaning they are all but safe.
