A Small Fox against a lot of Big Foxes
I never thought I’d ever write this in my
lifetime that Leicester City have actually gone and won the
Premier League.
Guys let that sink in for a second, a team that was in the championship two
seasons ago, have actually secured a premier league title; its not like they
scraped their way to it, these guys could actually finish more than 10 points
ahead of second place (what’s up with that though?) I mean credit where it’s
due, if this were Chelsea, Arsenal or the Manchester clubs plaudits would be
raised as if they dominated the entire season.
Now before I go any further about how great
Leicester were throughout the entire season, exceeding expectations, lets talk
about the other teams for a moment. First comes Tottenham, well I can’t lie you
guys gave me and many other fans a game to enjoy last week against Chelsea. All
that gouging, kicking, crying and trying to act like the Krays at the same time
was such an intriguing view. In all seriousness though, from the way those guys
have played, they’ve done alright haven’t they? That young bunch that they’ve
got, seems to me they’re set for the future. Pochettino set to extend his stay
White Hart Lane, which is also a very big win for Spurs and a big ‘you mad bro’
moment at all the potential suitors that wanted him. In a way Tottenham were
very unfortunate and just didn’t make it to the last hurdle.
* Uncontrollable laughter *
Then you have the
two teams from Manchester who didn’t look like they knew what they were doing. Confused?
Well here there was a man, dressed in red that talked incessantly about his
philosophy and carried a big book as if he was grading his players for a final
exam. It didn’t look his players passed the exam by the looks of things. He
argued with the press and became quite grumpy because a younger guy was being
linked with his job and also people questioned his philosophy. Poor man. Then there was another man across the road that is also
quite grumpy, because someone with a fancy name and a fancy CV is taking overhis job before the season has even finished. A damn good philosophy the new guy
has too.
Last but not least
you have the other London teams. One that is proud to be blue, they were the
champions not so long ago, the kings above all the other teams. This season was
supposed to be a season of domination; this was where they were going to
emulate the great Manchester United of old and Liverpool of old. This was
supposed to be a season where the big man Mourinho, was going to become like
Sir Alex Ferguson, making Chelsea his mainstay. Instead what you have was an
outrage at a club doctor for running onto the pitch to help an injured player
(NO WAYS REALLY?) Eden Hazard had signed a deal with Warner Bros. in August
2015 to play in the upcoming film The Invisible Man for the entirety of the season.
I think the deal ended on 2nd May 2016.
Next up you have
Arsenal Football Club. The self-titled best team in London; like the
aforementioned London team they were destined for great things for this season,
this was their year, finally they were going to fight till the end and Arsene
Wenger was going to win the title one last time before he left us. What Arsenal
didn’t tell us was that they going to buy one player in the summer, having us
worrying about injured players and when they come back they were going to be
like ‘new signings’. There was supposed to be a protest that was going to take
place at the Emirates, but it was as bland as Ben Affleck’s attempt at the Daredevil film.
Some season eh?
Finally we have the
champions. Leicester City. It is quite remarkable what they have done this
season and of course this will be inspiration to many of the lesser sides in
the Premier League to break the status quo. When the tough got going, they
never stopped going forward. Not for one second did they look back at what
their rivals were doing throughout the season, just on themselves. Yet they
remained so humble at the peak of it all. I mean I could argue and say they got
lucky at times, but that’s for another time. Will we see this happen again?
Personally I don’t think it will happen again for a long time. Saying that
however, this was needed. Why? The so-called big 4 were given a reality check,
a big one. They know they can’t be complacent at any point throughout the
season. So expect to see some big changes in the league next season. I’m sure we’d
all like to see some more Leicester next season breaking hearts again.
Well at the top end
of the league it has certainly been an entertaining one.
I bid you adieu.
