Relegation Dog Fight
Queens Park Rangers and Reading have been relegated from the
Barclays Premier League after abysmal campaigns. Harry (Houdini) Redknapp
struggled to keep his West London side QPR afloat after being appointed as
manager earlier in the season whilst former Southampton Gaffer Nigel Adkins
prepares for life in the Championship.
Adkins was appointed the Royal’s manager following his
Southampton sacking; he replaced Brian McDermott who had been with the Royals
for over 10 years. Harry Redknapp was also a former Southampton gaffer, when
they were relegated from the top flight in the 2004-05 campaign.
Although the Premier League has been a hard-fought campaign
with many teams partaking in the gut wrenching relegation dog fight, QPR and
Reading offered no sense of survival for their fans and slumped heavily
throughout the whole season.
With those two clubs down, the last spot is being avoided by
many a club and this could all go down to tonight’s game between Aston Villa
and Sunderland. Do the Villa win, then the relegation decider will most likely
go down to the end of the season when they face Wigan Athletic; two teams of
who are most likely to go down. However, if Sunderland wins tonight, it could
mean that Aston Villa will be relegated from the Barclay’s Premier League.
Who will win the
battle to survive top flight status?
