Brighton to Bite Back

Championship outfit Brighton and Hove Albion have officially reported homophobic abuse of which they have been subjected to in at least 57% of their matches this season.

A report was submitted to the Football association on Tuesday from the Brighton and Hove Albion Supporters Club (BHASC) and the Gay Football Supporters' Network (GFSN).

Brighton is often labelled as the 'Gay Capital of Britain' due to its substantial Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian and Transgender community.

This report comes just two months after LGBT month (February).

Brighton have been subjected to homophobic chants such as "Does your boyfriend know your here" as well as "You're just a town full of faggots".

After over 15 years of trying to get the authorities to take this regular abuse seriously, the BHASC and GFSN have declared "it wouldn't be described as 'banter' is the chants were about skin colour" something which has again been very much speculate upon over the past few years.

The Football Association attempted to step up the fight against homophobia by providing all 92 professional English teams with a 'toolkit'. However, shamefully only 29 out of the 92 engaged in the campaign.

Many people commented on BBC Football on their opinions, and the majority declared that Brighton should get over it, with one Cardiff fans stating they now sing "Sheep, Sheep, Sheep, Sh*****rs" when any opposing fans decide to do so, and this makes them stop. Another fan went on to say that it is only 'banter' and it is traditional in the game of football "Not all Everton and Liverpool fans are thrives, and no Cardiff or Swansea fans s**g sheep".

The debate, alike anything is open for discussion but homophobia as well as racism should not be accepted in football.
