Gunners and Gooners: Review

So, we’re coming to the end of the season and that means the summer transfer market. But who should Arsenal be looking to sell and who should they be drafting in.

For me we would get Seb Squillaci out and cash in while he still has some value on the market. He hasn’t seen first team football in I don’t know how long. And the last time I remember him playing is theFA cup fifth round at Sunderland last season. Even then he was subbed on and off in the same game. Given that, I’d get him sold to a club more suited for him and get us a couple mill in the process.
I would also like to see Mr Bendtner keep his bags packed upon his returning from loan. I’m not sure what it is about him; whether it’s the fact he never seems to perform well when he on occasion plays for Arsenal or his attitude (Not sure why I just feel that he doesn’t have the passion for Arsenal that I see in most the players we have.) But I would just rather have him out of the Arsenal picture for good.

Now someone I’m not sure about, our little Russian friend Andrey Arshavin. When I see him playing for Russia he seems like a different guy to the somewhat disappointing performances we see when he’s in his Arsenal top. Despite the odd amazing performance from him, he is a tad too inconsistent for my liking. I mean I wouldn’t be overly fussed whether he gets sold or not. It’s not like we need to make as much money as we can, but I just think he could be replaced by a figure that would fit into the squad better.

Now quite a controversial issue amongst gunners at the moment, Arsene Wenger. Some fans calling for his sacking, headed by the “fake fan” himself Mr Piers “#WengerOut” Morgan. I honestly find people wanting rid of him ridiculous and disrespectful to the man who has kept Arsenal at the forefront of English football for the full 16 years of managing us. Sure he hasn’t won any silverware for quite some time but you have to bear in mind that the players have something to do with it (*cough* Carling cup final *cough* Szczesny  and Koscielny) and yet the players receive no stick from fans. Well until they leave to say, I don’t know, Man United. But yeah for me Wenger stays until he wants to leave, or we get relegated.
In terms of summer purchases I would ideally see Wenger splash the cash. Arsenal for me is a team of very good players but nobody in the squad stands out to me as world class. Although it’s only a matter of time for some players (Jack Wilshere and even Carl Jenkinson if he continues to improve the way he has this season.) Therefore I’d have us buy one or two world class players, as much as I would like Messi I think I’m aiming a tad high there. I would however love to see a player like Mario Gotze of Dortmund. An attacking midfielder like him could improve our attacking quality and could help us take advantage of Man Utd’s loss of Sir Alex Ferguson (And pray they become somewhat disjointed with his departure).

There have also been talks of a certain Cesc Fabregas making a return to the club. Now I think I’m part of a large proportion of Arsenal fans who would welcome him back with open arms. I think his Spanish playmaking and goal scoring technique could put us back on top. Like the good old days when him and TT used to dominate the league.
Well that’s how I would have the club improved. Feel free to tweet @football_dugout and me @Giles_robinson with your own suggestions and/opinions on anything I talked about.
