Oh Owen, What Next?

Michael Owen has been a memorable figure in English football for over 15 years now and the news that he was going to retire in the summer came as a shock to a lot of football fans. The potters signed Owen on a free agent in the summer of 2010 but has only featured in six games since joining stoke last summer. Stoke fans had huge expectations for the ex-Liverpool striker but his time at stoke has been scarred with injuries just like the whole of his career. His recent lack of football and appearances on match of the day may have been some indication to his retirement but it still came as a shock to millions around the world.

The Potters striker only clocked up one goal at stoke, this came at Swansea in a 3-1 defeat on January 19th, in doing so he became the only the seventh player to score 150 premier league goals.

The Chester born striker is only 33 and most people thought he may have a future in foreign league football such as the MLS or the Australian league taking the same root as former Liverpool strikers; Emile Heskey or Robbie Keane.

He has said in a recent interview to the BBC that he has lots of options when he retires and refused to rule out a role in management but other sources claimed that Owen is heading towards a scouting role in football.

Owen may take a role as a football pundit and follow the route of Alan sheerer who became a pundit despite a short spell managing his home club Newcastle United
