Gunderful North London derby

Arsenal suffered a severe blow to their bid for Champions League qualification for next season, after to losing to their most bitter rivals, Tottenham in such a scintillating tie.

The game had started out very slowly; both sides had done well to gain possession throughout the first half and some say that spurs had started the game more brightly. Gareth Bale was threatening the arsenal four as well as fellow Englishman Aaron Lennon. Nothing much had changed until the 37th minute where Gareth Bale cleverly beat the offside, through a clipped pass off Gylfi Sigurdsson, to leave the Carl Jenkinson running and to put the ball calmly in the net past Wojiech Szczezny.   The Arsenal defence appealed for offside but replays proved that the Tottenham midfielder was onside. Unfortunately for arsenal things did not end there, where Scott Parker put a through ball for Aaron Lennon to score a carbon copy of the first goal of the first goal. Arsenal players were nonetheless pleased with the fact that the goal was given, because Santi Carzola was fouled, although the referee thought it was acceptable and let play on, when Lennon scored, Carzola was laid on the floor. But let’s be honest the arsenal defence were at fault and they should have simply PLAYED TO THE WHISTLE! 2-0 at half time was the perfect score spurs, but for Arsenal this task had just become harder. Spurs knew they had to keep their composure to keep their lead; Arsenal knew they were going to have to improve. Big Time.
Things had changed in the second half. Arsenal had scored 6 minutes into the second half. Theo Walcott had whipped in a free kick for German Giant Per Mertesacker to head it in. This goal meant business for both sides; Spurs knew they had to hold on. That goal changed the game. Minutes later, Monreal had had a driving shot that just went wide. However that didn’t stop from attacking either, no? Gareth Bale had a fantastic opportunity to kill the game off in the 60th minute, where Benoit Assou-Ekotto squared the ball, only for Bale to spectacularly squander his shot from six yards: Wide.
Both sides attacked throughout the game. Spurs were desperately hanging on for all three points. And in the 88th Minute Theo Walcott had a free kick which just flew inches wide from 25 yards.
After that? The game was won; Tottenham had held on to the game, they played resiliently throughout the second half. Perhaps Tottenham didn’t deserve all the three points, but Arsenal certainly didn’t deserve the win themselves. The win now puts Spurs into third position, in pole position in the race for the Champions League qualification. This leaves Arsenal in 5th place, 7 points behind Tottenham, with 4 points behind 4th place. It is crazy for anyone to rule the gunners out of the top 4, remember what season?
