The World’s Favourite Pantomime Villain Returns
After months and months of endless rumours, speculation and discussions, Manchester United finally confirmed the appointment of Josè Mourinho
Well, I must say it’s a strange appointment from Manchester United’s point of view. For a club that very much prides on blending youth with experience and playing exciting football, Mourinho certainly isn't one known for doing either of those things. That’s not to say he doesn’t, that would be naive. People should look at the way his Real Madrid side played back in 2011/12 season now that was some breathtaking football. If any team was robbed of not winning the champions league it was without a doubt that Real Madrid side. Some may disagree with me on this but in terms of the football they played alone, that title winning side was for me the best Madrid side I had seen over the last 10 years. And yes that is taking in the fact they didn't win the champions league.
Anyways I digress, point is Mourinho knew how to get his teams to play exciting football. He was also using players from the youth academy especially at Inter with big prospects such as Davide Santon, Mario Balotelli. Although neither have really managed to reach the heights that has been desired of them. Yet you see my point? Although he has used these players sparingly across all the clubs he has been too, that’s not to say he hasn’t completely frozen them out. Maybe he has not nurtured a young player into a world class player in the same way that Arsene Wenger has done or Sir Alex Ferguson have done so. Who knows that may change now that he’s at a club that has an actual structure for the way in which the academy and youth teams are run.
One thing I have to point out is that club legend Sir Alex Ferguson was never a man to shy away from feuds with other managers, especially with Arsene Wenger and Rafa Benitez. Nor was it a problem to antagonise the media with his mind games. And I must say Mourinho ticks all the boxes in that region. These mind games are going to be headache as well; I wonder what he’s going to say about Pep’s hairstyle this time or whether Wenger is a specialist in whatever it is or even if Claudio is still too old to manage a football team. Maybe he has changed, maybe he has seen the lighter side of life and knows how to be nice to be people. He might even say nice things about Weng- I think that’s enough jokes for now.
We could be here all day talking about who ‘Special One’ (or greedy one, moody one, annoying one. Take your pick) is going to sign or what kind of style he’s going to play with Man United but we won’t. I mean that guy is basically a one man show of Eastenders, every single game he just says some of the most ludicrous of things.
On a final note, I think we should spare a thought for Chelsea fans here. Their ‘best ever’ manager has gone to Manchester United. A rival. Their ‘best ever’ Midfielder went to Manchester City. Another rival. Their ‘best ever’ goalkeeper went to Arsenal.
Hahaha
