Norwich Near Ever Closer to the Drop
A disappointing result for the Canaries on the day that their former manager returned to Carrow Road.
With the rest of the premier league’s relegation candidates improving in form and more importantly points totals the home fans knew that this was a must win game. It wasn’t to work like that sadly.
After a goalless first half in which Norwich had the better of the possession (although perhaps not in terms of goal scoring chances) neither side could really complain at being level at half time.
The first goal of the game came when Gabriel Agbonlahor picked the ball up in midfield and with no Norwich players picking him up ran the length of the pitch and fired home into Mark Bunn’s goal. A very disappointing goal for the hosts to concede but just like so many games where Norwich have had the best of it, they failed to capitalise and were punished.
With 15 minutes to go Norwich were given a crucial lifeline. Robert Snodgrass was hauled over in the box and captain Grant Holt slotted home the resulting penalty to bring Norwich level.
A crucial goal.
Unhappily for the yellow and green army, there was to be one final goal. But not for the Canaries.
That man Agbonlahor again ran onto a great ball from Ashley Westwood to slot home into the far corner of the goal in the final minute of stoppage time.
The relegation zone continues to draw ever closer...
