Sunderland Ressurection
Just as it seemed the black cats would leave empty handed, Gardner and Sessegnon blasted home to earn a well deserved point for the mackems.
Going into this match both sides were languishing in the bottom half of the table, the black cats started brightly but were soon but were soon paid back when Craig Gardner conceded his second penalty of the season by tripping up Iranian international Ashkan Dejagah, the referee took ages to point to the spot, that gave Dimitar Berbatov the chance to move to double figures for the Premier League season and he did just that, dispatching his penalty coolly into the bottom corner to put Fulham ahead, Fulham haven’t lost this season when Berbatov has found the back of the net in the league.
The visitors soon doubled their advantage after the half hour mark when an excellent counter attack saw Bryan Ruiz and Ashkan Dejagah combine well on the right hand side, Dejagah shot was parried by Simon Mignolet into Sascha Riether pathway and the German defender was the first to react to record his first goal in Fulham colours, Fulham have only two away wins under their belt this season and they looked well on course to make three. The Black Cats were handed a life line just moments later when Phillip Senderos pulled Danny Graham’s shirt in the area and this time the referee showed no signs of hesitation in awarding the spot kick, Craig Gardner took the penalty looking to make up for his earlier error, and he smashed his third penalty kick of the season home into the top corner reducing the deficit between the two sides as Fulham remained ahead at half time.
Sunderland continued to up the anti after the break and they got back on level terms twenty minutes from time owing much to Simon Mignolet who made a spectacular save to keep out Dimitar Berbatov just seconds before, this allowed Sessegnon to race clear and his pass to Adam Johnson eventually found it’s way back to him and he lashed home the equaliser for his fifth premier league goal of the season to give Sunderland a fight, the full time score Sunderland 2 - 2 Fulham.
